Answers to the most common questions about Kun Academy and our programs
Samer Hassan is an ICF Master Certified Coach (MCC), ICF Young Leader Award recipient (2019), founder of Somatic Thinking, and has trained 500+ coaches across 4 continents.
Our headquarters are in Meydan Free Zone, Dubai, UAE. We deliver programs across the GCC and globally online.
"Kun" is a Quranic word meaning "Be" — the divine command of creation. The academy's name reflects the belief in human capacity for genuine transformation when it starts from the self.
Somatic Thinking is an independent methodology developed by Samer Hassan that integrates somatic body signals with a Tawhidi framework for understanding the self (النَّفْس). It is not a translation or branch of Western Somatic Coaching.
Yes. Somatic Thinking draws on neuroscience research in interoception and embodied cognition, combined with a philosophical framework rooted in Islamic intellectual heritage.
No. The methodology is designed to be experiential — it starts from bodily experience, not theory. We welcome professionals from all backgrounds.
No. Somatic Thinking is a coaching methodology, not therapy, and it is taught in a program accredited by ICF. The key distinction: coaching works with healthy individuals who want to grow, not with disorders that require clinical intervention.
No. The methodology benefits leaders, managers, and individuals who want to understand themselves more deeply. But if you're a coach, it will add a complete somatic layer to your toolkit.
ICF, the International Coaching Federation, is the body that accredits coach education programs worldwide and grants coaches their personal credentials. Somatic Thinking is taught in our program, which it accredits at Level 1 and Level 2. ICF accredits the program, Kun issues the certificate, and ICF grants the personal credential to you when you apply with your coaching hours and pass its exam.
Samer Hassan, MCC — the first native Arabic speaker to earn the ICF Master Certified Coach credential. He developed Somatic Thinking over 15+ years of professional coaching practice, informed by 30+ years of martial and healing arts across four continents.
No. While its philosophical foundation draws from Islamic intellectual heritage (the concept of النَّفْس and Tawhidi unity), the methodology is designed to be culturally universal. It has been practiced by people of all faiths and no faith across 13 countries.
One program, the Professional Coach Education Journey, accredited at two levels: Level 1 (104 hours in three milestones) and Level 2. Your Method (138 hours) is the Level 2 path with no prerequisite. It appears in ICF's directory as Somatic Thinking Coach Education by KUN Coaching Academy. ICF accredits the program, Kun issues the certificate, and ICF grants the personal credential to you.

It happens in two parts, and it helps to keep them apart. First, Kun educates you in a program accredited by ICF, the International Coaching Federation: the three milestones of the Professional Coach Education Journey (104 hours, your accredited education for applying for the ACC), or Your Method (138 hours, your accredited education for applying for the PCC). Mentor coaching, 10 hours with 3 one to one, and the final evaluation are inside it, and Kun issues your certificate. Second, ICF credentials you: you log your coaching hours (100 for the ACC, the Associate Certified Coach credential, 75 of them paid, with at least 8 clients and 25 of the hours in the 18 months before you apply; 500 for the PCC, the Professional Certified Coach credential, 450 of them paid, with at least 25 clients and 50 of the hours in the 18 months before you apply), apply to ICF, pass its exam and pay its fees to ICF, and ICF grants the credential once you meet its requirements. The whole path is on the Professional Coach Education Journey page.
They count in full when you complete a whole accredited program, and they stack on one certificate. The three milestones of the Professional Coach Education Journey (104 hours) earn the Level One certificate, your accredited education for applying for the ACC. Add a branch and you receive the Level Two certificate once, printing your total: Group Coaching makes 138 hours (Your Method), Organisational 141, Family and Couples after Group Coaching 158, and for coaches heading to the MCC, Advanced Individual 210. Family and Couples always comes after Group Coaching, because the foundation and that branch alone make 124 hours, one short of the 125 education hours ICF asks for the PCC. Each total listed passes the 125, and Your Method needs no Level 1 first. The ACC is not a prerequisite for the PCC. The MCC is a later credential that ICF opens only to PCC holders. If you finish only part of a program, each milestone earns a Certificate of Partial Completion with its hours; a coach who holds an ICF credential may submit it toward credential renewal, and ICF decides whether to accept it.
They come from two different hands. Kun's certificate shows that you completed an education program accredited by ICF: the Coach Education Certificate (104 hours), the Your Method completion certificate (138 hours), the Level Two certificate printing a larger total, or a Certificate of Partial Completion for a part you finished. The ICF credential (ACC, PCC or MCC) is a personal credential that ICF grants to you after you apply with your coaching hours and pass its exam. You need the first to apply for the second on the program route, and only ICF can grant the second.
Every milestone you complete stays yours as a Certificate of Partial Completion from Kun, showing its hours: 6 for An Introduction to Somatic Thinking, 92 for the Individual Coaching Foundation, 6 for Your Identity, and its own hours for each branch you finish. Each milestone certificate also shows how its hours divide between ICF's Core Competencies and Resource Development: the first two milestones count as Core Competencies, Your Identity as Resource Development. The Foundation certificate is issued on request if you have not yet completed Your Identity or the final evaluation. A coach who holds an ICF credential may submit it toward credential renewal; ICF decides what it accepts. It is a certificate for part of an accredited program, and it carries no ICF mark. Your hours also stack: after the three milestones and a passed final evaluation you receive the Level One certificate (104 hours), and when you add a branch you receive the Level Two certificate once, printing your total. The Family and Couples branch comes after Group Coaching. Certificates of Partial Completion on their own do not qualify you to apply for the ACC, because ICF asks for the whole program.
No. ICF alone grants the ACC, PCC and MCC, to the coach who applies and meets its requirements. ICF accredits our program, and Kun issues the certificate that shows you completed it. What Kun gives you is the accredited education, 10 hours of mentor coaching (3 one to one) and the final evaluation, together with that certificate. The coaching hours, the application, ICF's fees and the ICF exam are yours to complete with ICF, in your own time.
Our program appears in ICF's directory under two listings: Level 2 at 256 hours, and Level 1 at 79 hours, which are the hours of its original accreditation in 2018. Your Method, 138 hours, is a path inside the Level 2 accreditation, and the update of Level 1 to 104 hours is with ICF for review. The 104 and 138 hour figures are ours, so please check the listings yourself. The program appears there as Somatic Thinking Coach Education by KUN Coaching Academy, and the directory does not show the Arabic name.
Yes. Your Method is the 138 hour path inside our program accredited at Level 2, and it needs neither Level 1 nor earlier experience. You begin on the same start date as Level 1, and your first 104 hours are with its cohort.
For the Coach Education Certificate (104 hours): complete all three milestones, An Introduction to Somatic Thinking, the Individual Coaching Foundation and Your Identity, including the assignments, the ten hours of mentor coaching (3 one to one) and your six sessions with two volunteer clients with a case file for each, then pass the final evaluation. For the Your Method completion certificate (138 hours): complete all of its hours, its mentor coaching and the final evaluation. Each milestone you finish on its own also earns a Certificate of Partial Completion.
